I am going to personally support SoH with my donation. The committee will be placing their support behind the marketing of their work and website. I am therefore reinstating the web link to them and offer some marketing support through our site as a commitment from us on the power of therapeutic horticulture. There will be a visit by me in September to Three Acre Wood when I will add some pictures and a few paragraphs supporting their project. I will be paying for some gifts to take and will be using the money to fund our association.

I have added some information kindly supplied by SoH. The first document is a flyer to their open day on the 26th September, which I will attend in person. The second document is their newsletter which they publish a couple of times a year. There is also a map of how to find the site.

The Open day is this Saturday and I will be attending as an invited guest to  introduce myself to Kris and her team of volunteers, hopefully meet some of the men and women who are part of the rehabilitation set up. 

I will probably have some pictures and a story or two to report.

I will have new info on this page by Sunday Morning.

The Open Day

I arrived very early and had to ask directions for Three Acre Wood. Eventually I found the site. It is part of  a nature reserve which covers 65 acres and in good wisdom gave a three acre site to SoH. 

I arrived at the same time as Kris and the gang arrived to set up. This was around 9.30am. Kris and Joanna introduced themselves to  me and  I went and sat down by the fire pit while the SoH team set up a couple  of canopies and a few trestle tables in each one. One of  the pictures shows  the shop and the other one not shown was for the food and the third  was a friend of  the SoH whose display was all about edible leaves and berries available through foraging.

Joanna gave a tour of the 3 acre site to all that turned  up. She explained that the food forest was to  be made up of 7 levels eventually, with everything under the newly planted nut and fruit tree canopy.

There was a walnut tree which had a fully grown fruit on and there is a picture of a healthy Ash tree with black buds which is also shown. It seems the Ash tree is the only local tree to have black buds.

The shell  scrape   as  not  been shown, but had been dug to support all sorts of habitat and wild life. It was empty since it has been very dry but the vegetation and planting they had done was quite lush and green.

Joanna explained that 2 corregated sheets had been put down to  provide nesting and habitat sites for the local mice and glow worms to nest and rest. Unfortunately this time  there were none on show.

The grass as you can see in the tree pictures had been allowed to grow and it was explained that a scythe of the long grass was to be done at some time in keeping with the permaculture of the site. 

There was food and drink and all they wanted was a donation for what you wanted.

The day was warm and sunny and not a cloud in the sky. My ticket in the car park  had time left but I presented Kris with a few of our own shop items  which I will  reimburse the Association for and I  left quite satisfied at 2pm.

They were a super bunch of  people who have some good support and all were very much in tune with Mother Nature.

All in all a good couple of ours spent in good company.

I have had a follow up from Kris and he is inviting  myself to a planting session  on certain dates over the Autumn and Winter seasons. The email  is attached below. I will  let him know that I will go and help on the 6th December for the day.
